WHAT I LIKE?

A Simple Favor is surprisingly fun, twisted, disturbing and very clever. I expected less with the film but ended up pretty satisfied and entertained. What I like about about A Simple Flavor that despite its familiarity with “Gone Girl” and “The Girl on the Train”, what sets the movie apart from this dark & mystery-inspired thrillers is its interesting mix comedic timing from its talented cast plus some crazy twist and turns until the climax. Its comedy-crime formula effectively grabbed my interest from beginning to end. Somehow, it became a meta-parody of Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train which was actually pretty cool. The movie started on a very basic plot but as soon as Stephanie & Emily met, the mystery and fun was mixed with some impressive acting and creative plot twists that is very unexpected most of the time. It will provide you with many hints until an interesting major twist will redefine the whole movie’s plot material. Acting-wise, Anna Kendrick & Blake Lively were so perfect for the role. Anna being a single Mom who does video blogs while Blake is a mysterious PR Director with very strong personality. Majority of their scenes together were shot beautifully. They were so adorable to watch on screen. The addition of Henry was also good. He was as usual charming to watch. You will enjoy A Simple Favor until the Grand Reveal and a Climax. Watch out for that crazy twist and turns.

WHAT I DON’T LIKE?

Since I expected less with A Simple Favor, I have nothing against the movie.

WHAT I LIKE?

Pitch Perfect 3 is pretty much enjoyable on its own merits. If you are fan of the 2 other installments, you will loved this 3rd movie of the Bellas. What more can we expect with this Franchise that has truly raked millions ever since it hit theaters. Pitch Perfect 3 still delivers enough magic and charm from its talented casts and great choices of music. Story-wise, it is good to see a pick-up from the 2nd Film wherein the Bellas graduated from College and are facing their jobs. Of course, it became a little formulaic when they decided to join a competition via the USO Tour. Along the way, you will definitely love the sweet twist and turn adventures of the Bellas as they tour around the world enjoying what they truly love – singing together. I still loved all the girls. Expect the same charm and comedy specially when Fat Amy enters the picture. I would still consider Fat Amy as the best character and my favorite character in the whole trilogy franchise. Her comedic timing is impressive and I loved that the 3rd installment has a generous amount of theĀ  humor we loved from Rebel Wilson. On the other hand, Anna Kendrick never fails to lead the whole cast along with good supporting characters. Overall, the plot is full of dynamism and it did not bore me. For the choice of songs, the 3rd one is my favorite among the installments. Majority of the songs are familiar with general audience which is actually a good thing as compared to their 2nd movie. Regardless of flaws, Pitch Perfect 3 is a decent conclusion of this global hit that truly changed they we conceptualize “singing”.

WHAT I DON’T LIKE?

Generally, I feel like the whole Pitch Perfect 3 movie is a bit unnecessary specially when you talk about the conflict material. It felt that it was lacking and the twist were not much of an impact. Nevertheless, the film is pretty much enjoyable with a round of popcorn and soda.

The Accountant

The Accountant plays its audience with an interesting plot that may hit-and-miss action junkie audience and leaves a lingering feel of curioisity in the end for those silent film lovers. Yes, the movie is not your typical car-chasing and bone-crushing flick. The movie was able to combined different techniques in making you glued in your seats until the end. With a very risky take on Autism and special abilities, the film invested on Ben Affleck’s most powerful performance yet after Gone Girl. The is puzzle-thriller film was able to maximize its semi-bloated running time in telling a story behind the Accountant. It may have a lot of loop holes and loosely executed script and interpretation, but I actually find the movie entertaining as a whole. The addition of Anna Kendrick is a little charm over this dark mystery-thriller. The Accountant might have ended in a less fashionable manner but the ending justified the whole film’s worth. Well, this movie might bore some of you but you can try to look at the other side of the coin and find this interesting the least. 3.5/5 stars.
