WHAT I LIKE?

Rampage offers enough popcorn entertainment you have come to expect from 3 giant animal creatures trying to destroy Chicago. Somehow, it served its purpose to be an entertaining film with non-stop campy fun and visually-engaging action sequences that will bring enough thrills throughout its screening time. With the plot, it started very direct and simple. It need not to be complicated at all in the first place. The science part were used well and executed properly. Production-design was also impressive. I loved all the location and the Chicago scenes were done brilliantly. It is also visually-engaging in most parts. Visual effects were really great. The animal creatures were near to be realistic. The massive destruction scenes in Chicago was done well too. I am really entertained with the action scenes. It is as big as its predators. I mean, what would you expect from a B-movie offering a decent popcorn extravaganza. Acting-wise, Dwayne still delivers the same aura and acting needed for a destruction film like this. Plot material may not be as technical as it should be, but the presentation of the whole movie perfectly fits its title- Rampage!

WHAT I DON’T LIKE?

Well, it is forgivable. Plot could have been technical and more scientific. But then again, it has an enormous entertainment value from its smashing scenes.

WHAT I LIKE?

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is by far the best Jumanji Franchise ever adapted on the big screen and is one of the best family-adventure movies of all time. I admit, I was apprehensive on the first time I saw its trailer. After watching the film, I was literally blown away and entertained. The movie gave justice to this well-loved video game material and offered a visually-stunning and highly-entertaining masterpiece worth every price of your admission ticket. The movie started off with 4 different high school students with unique characteristics. Their discovery of the Jumanji Console paved their way to be actually inside the game. What I like about the film is that it is very direct. With a few introductions, the movie’s premise revolved around the world of Jumanji which is really a great thing. In Jumanji, the 4 teens play their chosen avatars. I really loved the mixed of characters of the 4 main acts. They are lead by Dwayne Johnson which is at his normal best. Kevin Hart’s comedic timing is still impressive. The charm of Karen Gillan and her bad-ass character is such a perfect fit. Most of all, I was entertained with Jack Black portraying Bethany. The whole Jumanji world for me is very impressive. It showcased lots of visual spectacles and edge-of-the-seat thrills especially on most parts. The animal scenes and even the man-to-man fight scenes were all executed adding to the film’s dynamic plot and a very engaging storytelling techniques. Of course, with a little touch of mystery and treasure-hunting formula, Jumanji could easily pleased adventure-junkie audiences. Overall, I really like the whole packing of the movie. It has the perfect timing of comedy mixed with romance, thrills and even an inspiring message. Yes, the movie is inspiring for me. Knowing that they have limited lives inside the game, they must worked together to fight for survival. On the other hand, you begin to realize the value of your single life as well. I was really impressed and I was glued from beginning to end. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is truly worth-watching many times.

WHAT I DON’T LIKE?

I will leave it blank though.

WHAT I LIKE?

Well, for fans of the show, you will feel nostalgic on this modern revamp and will be pleased to see cameos of the old Baywatch crew. Overall, it was entertaining and charming to begin with. Lowering expectations will somehow save you from disappointment on this movie. Plot-wise, Baywatch focused on the shallow side and invested more on green jokes, gross out humor and R-18 stuff. Well, the movie will appeal to a more mature audience. Conversations are very light and funny at times. The conflict was down-sized into something that could fit in a normal running time of a movie. It was fast-paced and it was more or less relevant to the whole story itself. I also enjoyed the beach actions here. Moreover, the new Baywatch crew is actually great and impressive. I am loving the Dwayne-Zac tandem and chemistry. They can be a good comic duo too. The inclusion of Alexandra and Kelly were actually a great choice especially when you are targeting for male audiences. They were both great in their roles as well. John was actually a good comic support in the film. It maybe weird that he is not an ideal Baywatch crew but the move was effective in adding spice to the whole story. Well, the slow-mos are also on-point. The production design is also good. I loved the whole beach setting. It is somehow closer to the original Bay. Despite its flaws, the movie entertained me.

WHAT I DON’T LIKE?

Nothing spectacular and memorable about this movie aside from the fact that its a revamp of a hit TV show before. At some point, the movie is trying so hard to be funny with thinly-written conversations. Somehow, the classical feel was lost. I expected much since the premise is very good and it was a hit before. The plot could have been better though. I know they invested on shallow and easy-way of the storyline but it lacks intensity in execution. I expected a deeper  cause of conflict. Moreover, the visuals needs improvement especially on the boat and fire scene. I expected shark attacks too since its Baywatch but there was none. It maybe entertaining but you can pass this film on cinemas.

My Recent Review of: Fast & Furious 7.

WHAT I LIKE?

I like and love everything about Fast and Furious 8. I just loved how this movie gets even better and more insane on its 8th installment. The Fast & Furious is truly a rare and unique cinematic masterpiece that made a very bold and risky move in renewing its plot after the untimely death of Paul Walker and a somehow long overdue material. This 8th installment pleased all fans with its very superb and impressive high-octane sequences that will bring you at the edge of your seats all the time. The movie is an explosive array of well-choreographed stunts and very commendable production design especially the New York Scene and the Russian Ice mountains. Fast & Furious 8 is a record-breaking movie for me for having almost a long and continuous shot of car chases and crashes and a very impressive cinematography from beginning to end. The man-to-man actions were also commendable. I just admire how the camera angles were creatively played in some exciting scenes. Also, I loved how the cyber crime played with the plot and sequences. The plot was justified and was renewed for this film. It was a great move to add Cipher and her evil plans. For me, the film’s greatest strength aside from its visuals and action formula, is the cast. I am always impressed with a vibrant and talented characters in the movie. All of them delivered well and gave great compliments with each other. I still love the punch of comedy along the way. I also would like to commend the consistent sound engineering of the franchise. Overall, I loved how this 8th movie in the series placed everything in order for us to crave for more. I am just blown away with Fate and the Furious. One of Hollywood’s finest masterpiece so far best and among the franchise. Worth every admission ticket.

WHAT I DON’T LIKE?

The fact that Paul Walker didn’t make it on the 8th film still sucks but I still loved how they made a little tribute and remembrance to him.

Moana

img_2856

In order to know where you’re going, you need to know where you come from. Disney’s Moana is an animated film inspired by the actual story of the people in the South Pacific in the height of the explorations in the sea. For me, this is one of Disney’s finest and rightful to be one of the most memorable animated film ever produced in history. This family-friendly adventure flick will please your eyes with great and impressive visuals, engaging conversations, good story phasing and some really heartwarming lessons. There is so much to love about the film. From its very refreshing Polynesian-inspired theme down to very lovable characters of Moana, Maui and not to mention the chicken and the pig. Aside from its child-friendly formula, Moana is a musical masterpiece also. With its very nice songs and numbers, the film won’t bore you even for a second. Loved the songs so much that I wanna listen to it every time. The movie is just fascinating to watch from beginning to end. The adventure beyond the sea will let your imaginations fly. Definitely worth-watching many times. Giving it perfect 5 stars.

Central Intelligence

central_intelligence_ver2

Central Intelligence is a downright flimsy flick that can easily drown with the rest of the CIA-themed flicks on Hollywood nowadays. Well, it is still a good movie but viewers can pass on this one on theaters and wait for a DVD Rip copy online. Dwayne and Kevin played great roles in this B-movie that suffered a weak conflict plot and storyline. Aside from its downplayed & uninteresting action sequences, the film struggled to elevate its game with entertainment and art. Thanks to some witty conversations and good acting performances from both characters. Without this, the film might have gone so wrong. 3/5 stars.

San Andreas

sanandreas4

San Andreas is your typical disaster movie that is somehow predictable at times, but striking as a whole. This earth-shattering film may join the bandwagon of disaster flicks with family drama stuff but all of these is the cream of the crop for this kind of genre. What differs this from 2012 is that the drama and connection with the characters are indeed felt. Aside from its superb visual effects, the film draws is strength from its sequences that could make you at the edge of your seat from start to end. It was pretty scary and awesome at the same time. 5/5 stars.
