WHAT I LIKE?

The Greatest Showman is truly one of Hollywood’s finest in the Musical Genre with impressive song performances, choreography and a very inspiring plot that will take you to a one of a kind journey of fulfilling your dreams and risking everything for your loved ones. I really loved the movie. Plot-wise, the movie stood ground with PT Barnum’s humble beginnings and hungry for affirmation. It was a perfect setting of the whole film’s premise. With the right timing of romance formula, the movie effectively set an atmosphere of dedication rooted within a family setting. This aspect has truly gave the whole film its soul and purpose to begin with. With a very inspiring plot material, the movie never failed to live up with its Genre – Musical. For me, all the song choices were great and very relatable. I can almost sing along with all the song numbers. I would like to also commend the choreography which is spot on and very creative. The film’s strength is most attributed with the Musical Formula that the Greatest Showman has impressively invested. Both the group performances, solos and duos were memorable for me. Jenny Lind solo performance got me chills in my spine. The Zac and Hugh tandem numbers were such a joy to watch too. The whole circus thing is well-executed and it was really done with precision and even near perfection. It was like a spectacle on the big screen. Hugh Jackman delivers along with all of its talented cast. More than a good musical masterpiece composition, the Cinematography and production Setting really stood out as well. I really liked the Circus Setting and the even the scenes shot within the city setting. Aside from that, the movie’s inspiring soul also got me. I am moved by the lesson the movie wanted to impart to us. The movie will bring you to a world of your dreams and will challenge you with those dreams. I was smiling until the end. The movie is truly worth-watching.

WHAT I LIKE?

Well, for fans of the show, you will feel nostalgic on this modern revamp and will be pleased to see cameos of the old Baywatch crew. Overall, it was entertaining and charming to begin with. Lowering expectations will somehow save you from disappointment on this movie. Plot-wise, Baywatch focused on the shallow side and invested more on green jokes, gross out humor and R-18 stuff. Well, the movie will appeal to a more mature audience. Conversations are very light and funny at times. The conflict was down-sized into something that could fit in a normal running time of a movie. It was fast-paced and it was more or less relevant to the whole story itself. I also enjoyed the beach actions here. Moreover, the new Baywatch crew is actually great and impressive. I am loving the Dwayne-Zac tandem and chemistry. They can be a good comic duo too. The inclusion of Alexandra and Kelly were actually a great choice especially when you are targeting for male audiences. They were both great in their roles as well. John was actually a good comic support in the film. It maybe weird that he is not an ideal Baywatch crew but the move was effective in adding spice to the whole story. Well, the slow-mos are also on-point. The production design is also good. I loved the whole beach setting. It is somehow closer to the original Bay. Despite its flaws, the movie entertained me.

WHAT I DON’T LIKE?

Nothing spectacular and memorable about this movie aside from the fact that its a revamp of a hit TV show before. At some point, the movie is trying so hard to be funny with thinly-written conversations. Somehow, the classical feel was lost. I expected much since the premise is very good and it was a hit before. The plot could have been better though. I know they invested on shallow and easy-way of the storyline but it lacks intensity in execution. I expected a deeper  cause of conflict. Moreover, the visuals needs improvement especially on the boat and fire scene. I expected shark attacks too since its Baywatch but there was none. It maybe entertaining but you can pass this film on cinemas.

Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates

If you are in for some popcorn fun, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates is the film for you. Bringing some R18 yet generally satisfying punch from its loosely written storyline and overall non-sense plot. The film actually managed to glue its audience with its dynamic cast. Loved the Adam-Zac comic tandem plus the charm and witty Anna and Aubrey. Well, dirty humor sells in general. Didn’t liked the ending though. Enjoyable as a comedy film but with no sense as a whole. 3/5 stars.

Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising

np_20160330_jjposter30_1214349

Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising is actually an unnecessary sequel but this is surely one hell of college comedy flick masterpiece. For me, it is even better than its predecessor with the addition of Chloe Grace and the still Hotties – Zac & Dave. With a consistent & good acting performaces from Seth and Rose, The 2nd is actually entertaining and heartwarming than the 1st one. It may have recycled some of the formula of the 1st one, but they have added enough creative approach to make this as new as it is shown on theaters. It feels like a stand alone Neighbor-thing with a taste of Feminism. I love you Chloe Grace. But I love Dave Franco even more 🙂 4/5 star
